| We’re glad you want to share your story. The success of this site and its purpose of getting our stories out there completely depends on user participation, and it couldn’t happen without you. So thanks!
Be sure to take a quick look at these Guidelines before submitting your story. Make it a story. Not an essay, not a social commentary, not a rant. Try to keep yourself in storytelling mode without slipping into an angry advocate. Keep it under 1500 words. But aim for as few as possible. You’d be surprised how often the best stories are the shortest stories. 300-word stories are winners. Keep it clean. This is a for-all-ages site. It’s fine if your story mentions having sex, but not fine if you include all the sweaty details. Use your better judgment on whether or not it’s appropriate. Think outside the closet. Almost every LGBT person has a coming out story and every one is unique. But unless yours truly stands out, try to write a story about something other than your coming out experience. Set a deadline. To procrastinate is to be human. I’ve found that one week is a good amount of time to think of a story, write it and rewrite it. It’s tough to finish personally assigned projects, so try giving yourself 7 days and stick to it. Have fun with it. You don’t need to be a writer to write a good story. Just act like you’re emailing your friend about your topic. Don’t be too hard on yourself while writing, worrying about big words and perfect grammar. Write like no one’s reading. Good to go? Then get to writin’! When you’re finished, copy and paste your story below. The town and state you were raised in (NOT the town you live in now) is required. Your first and last name or initial are strongly encouraged, but not required. Your email is required, but will not be shared, sold or used for anything other than contacting you. |
