Tully did a great piece about the Story Tour for the Windy City Times.

Kentucky Tue, 24 Jul 2012 19:40:41 +0000 While in Kentucky, we collected a Video Story from the openly gay mayor of Lexington, Jim Gray. Watch it below and Continue Reading to see a few photos of the rest of our Kentucky visit.

The Pink Boots: TN Thu, 25 Aug 2011 14:40:40 +0000 As we were leaving Nashville, The Pink Boots paid a visit to the only full-scale replica of the Greek Parthenon in existence.

Tennessee Wed, 24 Aug 2011 17:59:21 +0000 A homophobic university, a hopeful organization and a rascally rabbit made up part of our Tennessee visit.

Upon arrival, we met up with Dwayne Jenkins who works at Black Pride Nashville as well as Nashville Cares, an organization that provides education, advocacy, and supportive services to anyone affected by HIV and AIDS. He shared a wonderful story with us:

At the beginning of the Tour I had hoped we would have a diverse range of accommodations, and with Marquise, Nick and I all piling into a Vanderbilt dorm room, I definitely got my wish. The sleeping arrangements were tight but our host, Bryann, was very kind to put us up. He had a pet rabbit who seemed nice enough at first. But he later gave Nick a quick one-two, bite-kick when he tried to take him out of his cage. We cried from laughing so hard at how fast the little guy attacked Nick. Needless to say, he didn’t get any carrots.

We also went to Belmont University to talk with some students about what it’s like being LGBT at a private Christian University. Soon after we visited, Belmont made national headlines when they fired a soccer coach after finding out she’s a lesbian. We’ll have a video of the roundtable discussion with the students up soon. We also filmed a Video Story with Robbie Maris, the President of Bridge Builders, whose mission is to “strive to foster the discussion and examination of the Christian faith and LGBT-related issues.” His story will be on IFD soon.

I also sat down for an interview with Blake Boldt of “Out & About” newspaper. Thanks to our host Bryann and his friends taking us out the night before, we left Nashville slow and groggy and made our way towards Kentucky.

VIDEO: Creating A “Family of Choice” In Alaska Tue, 09 Aug 2011 16:15:40 +0000 Phyllis Rhodes is simply awesome. She’s the Executive Director of Identity, Anchorage’s LGBT Center, and has a heart of gold. I wish every LGBTQ Alaskan would go pay her a visit because I know they would feel better afterwards. Alaska is lucky to have her.

VIDEO+PHOTOS: Thanks For Donating Thu, 12 May 2011 19:09:38 +0000 Back when we were doing our Kickstarter fundraiser for the Story Tour I promised if you donated $100 or more that I would write your name in the sand in Hawaii. Well, I did. Here’s a video chronicling the sand-writing day and the slideshow of photos below. If your name is in the sand, I’ll email you with a couple photos so you can save them and keep them.

Thanks again to everyone who donated! Continue Reading for the video and slideshow.

Also, a special thanks to Aiden James for the music in the video and to Brian Navarette and the wonderful people from Hula’s Bar.

VIDEO: LifeWorks Youth Discuss LGBT Life in L.A. Mon, 28 Feb 2011 17:28:25 +0000 One of the most inspiring discussions we had on the Tour was in Los Angeles. We spoke with some youth at LifeWorks, a youth development and mentoring program hosted at the LGBT Center. They told us all about being LGBT in L.A. and how it isn’t the perfect gay mecca people might think it is. Read more about LifeWorks and our visit to L.A. here. Continue Reading to watch the video.
