Upon arrival, we met up with Dwayne Jenkins who works at Black Pride Nashville as well as Nashville Cares, an organization that provides education, advocacy, and supportive services to anyone affected by HIV and AIDS. He shared a wonderful story with us:

At the beginning of the Tour I had hoped we would have a diverse range of accommodations, and with Marquise, Nick and I all piling into a Vanderbilt dorm room, I definitely got my wish. The sleeping arrangements were tight but our host, Bryann, was very kind to put us up. He had a pet rabbit who seemed nice enough at first. But he later gave Nick a quick one-two, bite-kick when he tried to take him out of his cage. We cried from laughing so hard at how fast the little guy attacked Nick. Needless to say, he didn’t get any carrots.

We also went to Belmont University to talk with some students about what it’s like being LGBT at a private Christian University. Soon after we visited, Belmont made national headlines when they fired a soccer coach after finding out she’s a lesbian. We’ll have a video of the roundtable discussion with the students up soon. We also filmed a Video Story with Robbie Maris, the President of Bridge Builders, whose mission is to “strive to foster the discussion and examination of the Christian faith and LGBT-related issues.” His story will be on IFD soon.

I also sat down for an interview with Blake Boldt of “Out & About” newspaper. Thanks to our host Bryann and his friends taking us out the night before, we left Nashville slow and groggy and made our way towards Kentucky.
