This Week’s Stories.

I’m From Chicago, IL. Last year I was dumped out of a 12 year relationship. It is the only relationship I’ve ever managed to have with a man. I thought it was forever, but I was mistaken. Now I’m middle-aged, back on the market and finding out just how hopeless it may be. But you know what? I don’t care! Because those were the happiest 12 years of my life!

I’m From The Bronx, NY. One Saturday my mom and I went downtown to Scandinavia House to see a movie. My mom is a member there (she’s Swedish on her mother’s side, which makes me a quarter Swede) and with her light hair and eyes she fits in rather well. Since my dad is Japanese, my dark hair, dark eyes and Asian features are quite a contrast. I’m sure we make for an odd looking pair. As it happens, Scandinavia House is next door to the Kitano Hotel so there were a number of Japanese tourists having lunch in the dining room, but I digress.

I’m From Orem, UT. It was late by the time he got into town. We went up the canyon and found a quiet park. We felt the cool dark grass against our backs as we talked. We saw diamonds of light dancing in the sky. We heard girls voices trying to be quiet, muffled giggles. Then there they came! Three naked girls running past us, moonlight caressing their sun-starved skin. “Should we steal their clothes off of the picnic table?”

I’m From Hesperus, CO. Until 4th grade I lived in a town of 600 people. Then through high school I lived 5 miles away from a town of 40 people, about 30 miles from the nearest sidewalk. In college I lived in a town of 12,000 people and it was the largest city anywhere for the next 300 miles until you got to Albuquerque or Denver. Maybe my region is unusual, but we’ve always had a fairly well networked gay community here. There are picnics, camp outs, dances, happy hours and other social events. People here are also fairly live-and-let-live, I never encountered much homophobia growing up.

I’m From Temple Hills, MD - Video Story. My name is Jon Young and I’m from Temple Hills, Maryland, born and raised. So my story is about being a bisexual male and growing up in the ’80s and overcoming being depressed and at times suicidal. You know, it’s interesting being in this country, if you’re suspected of being anything but straight and super macho, you’re tormented. And I know what it’s like going to school every day as a kid, especially in elementary, middle school, the beginning of high school and being “the gay kid.”

I’m From Palm Desert, CA.
I attended California State University in San Diego, California, during the seventies. At the time it had 35,000 students and was a very liberating environment for a kid from the suburbs. I kept waiting to grow out of the attraction I had for men. But in college, with all the hot men, it only got worse. [...]

FEATURED ARTIST - Nick Manske STORY by Nathan Manske I guess I always knew, but it wasn't until my late teens that I really came to terms with it: I had special powers. It was summer in Texas and I was hot, sweaty, tired, and sore. My shoes had holes in them from over-use and my socks were wet [...]
I’m From Phoenix, AZ.
The Steering Committee meeting was taking a short break.  A bunch of us gay people gathered in the kitchen and started talking about what else - coming out.  Pretty soon we were all laughing hysterically at the crazy things some of us had done when we first came out.  That’s when pretty little seventeen-year-old Jenny walked [...]
I’m From Deep River, ON, Canada.
I sat down. She gazed at me, sitting peacefully. I don't know why I was scared. I knew that there was no reason to be. She wouldn't care in the slightest, but still my stomach was in knots. But something in me was saying that I had to do this; that coming out to someone - anyone [...]
