The Trevor Project’s Rated Q Video Contest

I’ve always been a fan of The Trevor Project, as we share a common goal of helping LGBT youth. On October 11, which was National Coming Out Day, they launched Rated Q, an online video contest. Here’s a description in their words:

Every day, counselors on The Trevor Helpline talk with young people from across the country struggling with issues surrounding sexual orientation, gender identity, family/peer rejection and feelings of hopelessness. But for every youth in crisis, there are many more who have found acceptance from a friend, teacher or loved one. If you’ve ever been harassed, bullied or singled out for being a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning (LGBTQ) young person, what support have you found? How did the people in your life react when you came out to them? While our experiences may differ, we can draw strength by sharing and listening to each other’s stories. We invite you to create a short video telling the world about your experiences as a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning youth within your family, school, and/or communities.

Submissions began Sunday and end November 15. For the rules and regulations, and to submit your video, go here: http://memelabs.com/thetrevorproject

Please share the link with any LGBT youth you know who might be interested in participating.

I’m From San Diego, CA.
It was a combination of moments, really, that got me writing right now. Moments, layered one on top of the other, that brought to mind the line from Virginia Woolf, “Life is not a series of gig lamps symmetrically arranged; life is a luminous halo, a semi-transparent envelope surrounding us from [...]
Announcing the 50-State Story Tour Blog
After many months of planning, fundraising and scheduling the beginning of the IFD 50-state Story Tour is finally drawing near. Since we want to keep IFD focused on stories, we felt it would be a good idea to launch a separate blog so you can follow our adventure. We want this Story Tour to be as [...]
I’m From Goodlettsville, TN.
I'm only 16 years old today, but I tried to come out to my parents when I was barely 14. I had a boyfriend at the time who I was crazy about. My mom took up my phone because I was texting too late and I just started crying because I didn't [...]
